COVID-19 UPDATES
March 16, 2020
Members of the Washington University of Virginia:
Washington University of Virginia is closely monitoring the COVID-19 Coronavirus and is following guidelines shared by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Based upon the COVID 19 guidance of the State of Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), WUV will offer all the classes through the online modules. SCHEV has allowed the online education (distance education) through April 30, 2020. All the accrediting agencies, TRACS, ABHE, ATS, and IACBE, have also recommended the same guidance regarding the move to the online instruction system.
Thus:
- Cancel all on-campus classes, effective today, March 12, through the end of the semester, including finals, and move to online instruction starting Monday, March 30.
- Spring break for all programs, including ESL, starts from March 16 and ends on March 27.
- The end of the semester will be extended to the week of May 11-15 for the makeup.
- The end of the semester for ESL will be extended to May 21 for the makeup.
WUV’s IT team is working ceaselessly to test and set up the proper online system so that our students may have a smooth transition from on-campus classes to online classes. The information about the online system will soon be sent to all our instructors and students with a manual.
In addition, following the President’s Coronavirus guidelines that recommend avoiding gathering in groups of more than 10 people, and to maintain social distancing to minimize human contacts, WUV’s all offices will be closed until further notice. However, all the necessary services you need, including admissions, finances, academic affairs, and the like will be available through emails, info@wuv.edu for all administrative matters and academic advisors’ emails for academic matters, or the school telephone: 703-333-5904. If you do not receive an immediate response, please leave your name and contact number, the staff will contact you.
In case of emergency, students may call the following contact numbers:
IT Tech Support: 571-730-8433
School Office: 571-730-8380 / 571-730-8369
However, we strongly recommend you use these numbers only for the genuine and serious emergencies.
There are currently no confirmed cases at WUV. As this is an evolving situation, the University will continue to provide updates if there are any additional significant changes that may impact the WUV community. Let us not panic or cause panic. But let us keep our calm and face this pestilence with faith. Often the brightest light is the light shone in the deepest darkness, as Jesus’ death was.
Sincerely,
Peter Chang, Ph.D.
President, WUV
