How to Create a Quiz in Google Classroom
Google Classroom offers a wide variety of items you can create to engage your students, including quizzes. Quizzes are made using Google Form within Google Classroom and it is very easy to organize and set up!
To create a quiz, first login to your Google Classroom course page. On the top of the main course page, click the “Classwork” tab. Then click the green “Create” button. Here you will see a list of 6 different items you can create. Click the “Quiz assignment” button and it will open as a pop-up.
On this page, you can add a title and instructions for your quiz assignment which will be displayed in Google Classroom. Below the instructions text box, there is an “Add” button which you can click to add different links such as Google Drive, a file, or YouTube video. For example, if you want to quiz your students on content based on a file or a video, you can include that here. Additionally, you can click the “Create” button to add Google items like Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drawings, or Forms.
To begin editing the actual quiz, click the “Blank Quiz” Google Forms doc at the bottom and it will open in a new tab. In the Google Form, you can add the title and description for your quiz at the top. The first untitled question will be right below this. You can type out the actual question and add pictures if necessary using the button to the right of the question text box.
Using the drop down menu to the right of this, you can change the type of question you would like to have. There are a variety of options, such as short answer, paragraph, or multiple choice. On the bottom is a blue “Answer key” button which you can click to add the correct answers so Google knows how to grade the quiz.
Finally, to the right of the entire question box is a vertical menu with more options. The buttons are, in order from top to bottom: Add question, import questions (from other Google Forms), add title and description, add image, add video, and add section.
Once you are done creating your quiz, you can preview the final quiz by clicking the eye icon on the top right. A new tab will open showing how the quiz will appear for students. If you are satisfied with your quiz, you can close the tabs and return to Google Classroom since Google saves automatically.
Back at the Google Classroom quiz page, you can finalize your quiz before posting the assignment. On the right-hand side you can change how many points the quiz is worth, the due date, and the topic. You can add a grading rubric and check a box to check for plagiarism using Google.
The final step is to post your quiz assignment. On the top right corner there is a green “Assign” button with an arrow. You can click “Assign” to post the quiz immediately, or you can click the arrow for more options. This allows you to schedule your quiz to be posted at a later date or to save your draft. Now you’re ready to begin creating quizzes!
