How to Grade Using Rubrics in Google Classroom
Once you have created Rubrics in Google Classroom, you need to know how to use them to grade assignments. Grading with rubrics will speed up your entire grading process and keep things organized.
First, in the “Classwork” tab on your Google Classroom course page, click the assignment you would like to grade and then click “View assignment.”
Open the student submission that you would like to grade and it will open in a new tab.
On the righthand side of the page, make sure you are on the Grading tab in order to see your rubric.
In the grading tab, you will see “Rubric” and underneath every criterion taken from your grading rubric. You can select each specific level to assign points straight from the rubric, illustrated by squares underneath each criterion.
If you would like to assign points in between levels, you can type in a specific number as well on the right of the criterion name. Additionally, you can click the name of each criterion to expand it and see all the levels and descriptions.
You can add additional feedback in the “Private comments” section at the bottom of the grading section.
The points you entered or selected for each criterion level will also total up automatically under “Grade” so you don’t have to manually change anything.
Once you are satisfied with the grade for your student’s assignment, you can click the blue “Return” button at the top righthand corner or click the drop down menu to return multiple submissions for other students.
Students will be able to see the rubric you used to grade their assignment in order to better understand their grade. We hope you see why using Rubrics in Google Classroom is a smart and efficient way to grade assignments and keep feedback organized!
