Welcome to the Washington University of Virginia Library website, home of one of the largest bilingual (Korean and English) research libraries in the country. Our library serves a variety of academic disciplines in the humanities, social sciences (especially concentrated on theology), Bible commentary, church ministries, multi-cultural immigrant related resources, small business and conflict transformation. The WUV Library collection numbers over 30,000 items that includes books, journals, DVD, and sound recordings. The main collection is in open stacks and arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System.

Purpose statement
The WUV Library fully supports the WUV institutional missions. We have the responsibility of providing our students, faculty, and staff access to resources that reflect depth and diversity of opinions, free access, and providing knowledge of the disciplines associated with the WUV class offerings and of developing lifelong learning interests and skills. We strive to serve our patrons by providing and maintaining materials that encourage men and women in the development of critical thinking skills and godly character so that they will be able to minister wherever they are.

WHO CAN BORROW LIBRARY MATERIALS
  • Active faculty, students, staff, and university alumni of Washington University of Virginia
  • Area Pastors
  • Other Visitors: allowed to use resources with the library, but are not allowed to check out items
RENEWALS In order to renew previously borrowed materials, you must make a renewal request either in person or over the phone before the due date. Borrowers are allowed to renew books up to two times.
VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR BORROWERS
  • You are responsible for all materials checked out in your name.
  • Please produce your student ID when checking out books at WUV.
  • Do not loan your ID or your borrowed items to others and do not depend on other to return items to you.
  • It is your responsibility to update your address, e-mail address, and other contact information with the university and library.
  • Library Membership Card: Check in/out privileges can be obtained by getting your student ID card at the register’s office in main university building.
  • Damaged items borrowed from the library must be returned in the same condition as they were checked out.
LIBRARY MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
  • References – They are identified by “R” on the book label, and must be used in the library only. They include dictionaries, atlases, encyclopedias, indexes, lexicons, commentaries, bibliographies, and others. These books do not circulate outside of the library.
  • Reserve books – Books that were selected by professors and instructors as required text or recommended on their syllabus. They are located behind the circulation desk and must be returned after being used.
  • Circulating Books – Contains 90% of the library collection. They are organized on almost every subject by the Dewey Decimal System and held on shelves throughout the library.
  • Periodicals and Magazines – The library subscribes to over 30 current religious/secular periodicals and magazines. These cannot be checked out and must be returned after being used.
  • Audio-Visual Aids – There are over 400 DVDs and CDs for check out. These materials maybe checked out just as any books, without rental fee.
  • Newspapers – The library has daily editions of the Washington Post, Korea Times, and the Korea Daily. They must be returned after being used.
OTHER SERVICES
  • Copy and Print – The library makes a photocopier available for student use. Copies are 10 cents a copy.
  • Writing Center – Used for editing and proofreading purposes in English. Available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings shifts from 11:00am-1:00pm, and on request if librarian is free during that period.
  • Small group activities in Group Study Room – Available for independent study, projects, and group assignments. Room can be reserved but walk-ins are fine if the room is not being used.
  • Commentary Room – Room contains several books, mostly Korean, of New and Old Testament commentaries. It can also be used for independent study.
  • Wireless Internet and Computers – Five computers are available for students and facility in the library. There are also five computers for use in the ESL/English as a Second Language computer lab. Wi-Fi Wireless Internet is also available. All work done by the student is to be saved not on the computer’s hard drive, but on thumb/flash/USB drives owned by the patrons. A printer networked to the computers may be used to print out completed projects. Work printed by the copier in the library will be charged 10 cents per page.
WUV LIBRARY BEHAVIOR POLICY The following behaviors and items are prohibited in the library:
  • Speaking loudly – used courtesy for others who are there.
  • Loud or disruptive behavior and no horseplay
  • Harassing or threatening behavior, whether to staff or other patrons
  • Damaging, destroying, or unlawfully removing library materials or property.
  • Eating and Drinking
  • Cell phone use – please talk outside to not disturb other patrons
  • Writing/highlighting in Library books.
