1098-T NOTICE
October 07, 2019
Dear Students:
The 2019 tax year will end in December. It is time to prepare your 2019 tax return.
The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 allows certain taxpayers who pay qualified tuition and related expenses to an eligible educational institution to claim an American Opportunity Credit or a Lifetime Learning Credit against their federal income tax liability.
Beginning in 2002, a Deduction for Higher Education Expenses was established. Low and Middle income students pursuing college, graduate degrees or vocational training may elect to claim these tax credits or deductions for tuition expenses incurred.
For more information, visit the IRS Tax Benefits for Education: Information Center.
The Tuition Statement (1098-T) form will NOT be issued to our International Students, unless requested by the student. An International Student considered a Non-Resident Alien (NRA) for income tax purposes is not eligible for the various educational tax credits and/or deductions. The IRS therefore does not require WUV to issue Form 1098-T to International Students.
During the last week of January 2020, U.S. citizen or resident alien students will be sent a Tuition Statement (1098-T). The information provided on this statement is for the period between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. This document will be mailed to your permanent mailing address. Your social security number and current address must be on file no later than December 20th, 2020 to receive your 1098-T.
Note: WUV does not provide individual tax advice and shall not be liable for damages of any kind in connection with this information. Accordingly, you should consult your tax advisor about your specific circumstances.
Sincerely,
The Business Office
