Extra credit is a great way of giving your students an opportunity to improve their grades.
On the Moodle home page, choose the course you would like to assign extra credit to. On the left-hand side underneath your course name and below “Participants,” click “Grades.”
Underneath the Grader report, click “Setup.”
Find the category you would like to add extra credit to. Click the “Edit” drop down menu to the right of the category and then select “Edit settings.”
Under Parent Category, check off “Extra credit.”
To further explain how extra credit works, here is what the Moodle website says:
“If the grade item’s maximum grade is not added to the category’s maximum grade, resulting in the possibility of achieving the maximum grade (or grade over the maximum if enabled by the site administrator) in the category without having the maximum grade in all the grade items.”
Be sure to click “Save changes” once you have checked off “Extra credit.”
