How to Create a Quiz on Moodle
Moodle has a quiz feature in the activity chooser where teachers can add a quiz description, individual quiz questions, and general feedback. In the quiz set up screen, you can type in the name of the quiz next to ‘name’ and type in the description next to the text box for the ‘Description’ tab. There are also options to add media links, images, audio/video files, and H5P content in the description tab. Click ‘display description on course page’ if you want the quiz description to appear in the students’ quiz page.
Scroll down all the way to the bottom and click ‘save and display’.
Now you have a blank quiz page. Click either the button for ‘edit quiz’ in the middle or click that same icon in the setting.
Click the ‘add’ button. There are three ways to add the quiz questions. You can add a brand new question by clicking + a new question. ‘+ From question bank’ allows you to add pre-made questions from the question bank. This option requires you to have either added some new questions one by one or imported questions through using file formats in advance. You can also add + random question to mix the order of questions that will appear in the students’ quiz. For now, click ‘+ a new question’.
Here in this Activity Chooser, you can choose the type of question that you want to add in your quiz. We will choose multiple choice. Click ‘Add’.
In this page, type in the question name and the actual quiz question in the question text. The question name will not be visible in the actual quiz but, it will be used to recognize each questions in the question bank.
Scroll down and add general feedback to help students understand what the question is asking. This description will only show up after the students have completed answering the question.
Make sure to change your answer to ‘multiple answers allowed’ if the quiz question has more than one right answer.
Scroll down to add the answer choices for your quiz question. We will add ‘None’ when the answer is wrong and, we will add 100% when the answer is right. If your multiple choice question has more than one right answer, you can select other percentage amounts to give partial credit for each multiple correct answer choices.
Once you are done typing in the answer choices, scroll down and click ‘save changes’
Now we have our first quiz question which we can preview by clicking the magnifying glass icon. We can add quiz questions by repeating these steps in Moodle.
